James V. Ferreira, MSc
Sedimentologist & Stratigrapher Expert
James graduated in Geology from UNESP (São Paulo State University) in 1982, completed a Master’s degree in Reservoir Geology at UFOP (Federal University of Ouro Preto) in 1984, and post-graduation program in Business Management at UFS (Federal University of Sergipe) in 2000.
He has over 40 years of experience in the oil industry, having worked at SCHLUMBERGER (1985) in well-log acquisition and evaluation, and at PETROBRAS (1986–2020) overseeing the acquisition, evaluation, and correlation of rock data (facies analysis and petrography) and well logs. In 2025, he conducted training for geologists in sedimentology and stratigraphy and participated in a reservoir quality study for the MOCÓ-1-AL well for ORIGEM ENERGIA.
He has trained dozens of groups of geologists in field courses and core description. He coordinated or co-authored dozens of projects and reports covering all stratigraphic units of the SE/AL Basin; the most recent include: Aracaju High Carbonates Project, Sergipe Sub-basin – 2019 (coordinator);
Regional Integration Project for the Onshore and Shallow Water Areas of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin – 2021 (co-author); Calumbi Project – Deepwater Turbidites of the Sergipe Sub-basin – 2021 (co-author).
Concurrently, he served as Geology Manager at PETROBRAS for 30 years. He has a particular interest in participating in reservoir studies for mature fields, guiding the acquisition and correlation of facies, petrographic, petrophysical, and well-log data to enhance hydrocarbon recovery.
